The International Hotel School of Mount Lavinia Hotel provides a launching pad for those interested in taking up careers in the Hospitality Industry. Students may enter with Ordinary Level and / or Advanced Level qualifications and embark on exciting careers in the Hospitality Industry either in Sri Lanka or overseas. Students will have the opportunity to make many educational visits and complete social and environmental protection programs. The International Hotel School is well equipped with a Library, Four spacious class rooms, which comfortably accommodates more than 35 students in each and facilitate for Food and Beverages Kitchen demonstrations. The curriculum contains a unique blend of Theory and Practical, which makes the courses at the school an exciting and rewarding experience. The certificates issued from The International Hotel School is recognized the world over hence the possession of a certificate is a passport to employment, as students require no more further recommendation. The International Hotel School has Alumni of more than 500 students who are currently working Internationally and Locally at Managerial levels. We are proud to add that the international Hotel School is the only functional hotel school in Sri Lanka.

Diploma in Hotel Operations

Duration: 02 years (04 semesters, including 06 months for each)

Course out line: The Two years Diploma Course in Hotel Operations covers the four (04) main areas in a Hotel. Students who receive their Diplomas are granted a two year exemption from their Bachelor of Hospitality Degree in the Universities overseas which with the school is affiliated.

Requirement: GCE Ordinary Level and/ or GCE Advance Level
In-House Tuition: All In- House Tuition will be conducted at The International Hotel School located at 48, Station Road, Mount Lavinia. Sri Lanka
Industrial Training: At the end of the 04 months of theory, students will undergo practical training at the Mount Lavinia Hotel for a period of 02 months. During this period the students will be provided with the required uniforms, as well as all meals while on duty. Students will receive more than 1500 hours of practical training
Intake: Twice a year (January and July)

Certificate Courses

Duration: Six months (one semester)
Course out line : These short six months courses deal with the basic skills and knowledge required to carry out general duties within a range of Tourism and Hospitality Enterprises. Additionally these courses deal with the skills and knowledge required in a commercial accommodation establishment. Students may enroll either in one of the following courses.

Hotel Operations

Requirement: GCE Ordinary Level
In-House Tuition: All In- House Tuition will be conducted at The International Hotel School located at 48, Station Road, Mount Lavinia. Sri Lanka
Industrial Training: At the end of the 04 months theory, students will undergo practical training at the Mount Lavinia Hotel for a period of 02 months. During this the students will be provided period with the required uniforms, as well as all meals while on duty. Students will receive more than 385 hours of practical training.
Intake: Twice a year (January and July)
In- House Tuition - International Hotel School

The International Hotel School is well armed with a qualified panel of lecturers. All lecturers are Pioneers in Hospitality Industry with first hand experiences. The students will have the opportunity of becoming highly skilled personnel in the Hotel Industry where they will be trained to stand on their own feet with self confidence.

Practical Training: Mount Lavinia Hotel

Mount Lavinia Hotel is recognised as a leader in the field of innovatory trends. The Hotel offers many up to date facilities for the visitor and the modern day traveler alike. It has its own secluded pristine beach, a refreshing spa and swimming pool, a fine terrace overlooking the bay and the Colombo skyline, fine dining with speciality restaurants including a seafood restaurant on the beach, a business centre, and the added comfort of 275 contemporary and stylish guest rooms.

This establishment serves as the perfect stepping stone for the International Hotel School students as they receive their practical training from seasoned executives of the Mount Lavinia Hotel. The Mount Lavinia Hotel also won the Pacific Asia Travel Award (PATA) Grand award for training in 2005.


Current updates

The International Hotel School of Mount Lavinia Hotel has now spread its wings to Eastern Province with the notion of offering equal opportunities for rural youth. The first batch has already passed out with the assurance of employment in star class hotels and the second batch is currently undergoing Practical Training in Hotels in Sri Lanka. Sooner we will move to Tangalle and several other regions too in order to share and enhance the knowledge of Hospitality Education.
